Leviticus 25:10 – “And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof:”
Isaiah 61:1-2 – “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me …to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD…”
Inscribed on both the Liberty Bell, which is located at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island, New York, are these words of Moses to the Levitical priesthood: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Both of these great American landmarks identify the heart and soul of the “American dream” – the “Rights” to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” (Declaration of Independence).
The writers and signers of the July 4th, 1776 Declaration proclaimed to friends and enemies alike that this Declaration relied upon “Divine Providence”, and their signatures permanently expressed their “mutual pledge” of “life, fortunes, and sacred honor”. This was their public proclamation of “liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” However, not all who inhabited America appreciated this Declaration. Many of them, in fact, served as informers against this great cause during the American Revolution. Nevertheless, those who believed in this cause willingly purchased with their lives and fortunes our liberties, and we celebrate this great sacrifice every July 4th.
As the desire for God-given “rights” birthed the American dream, even so, the desire for God-given salvation is created as believers testify and publicly display the eternal effects of salvation. And, as it was necessary for a few to speak for many, even so, the call to freedom through salvation requires the proclamation of the saved to “speak” to the captives, declaring that today is the acceptable day to be saved!
Jesus looked for “laborers” (Luke 10:2) to send into His harvest and does so today! In God’s “labor market”, “HELP WANTED” is always posted!! An unknown author put God’s call for laborers this way: “WANTED! More to improve and fewer to disapprove. More doers and fewer talkers. More to say it can be done and fewer to say it’s impossible. More to inspire others and fewer to throw cold water on them. More to get into the thick of things and fewer to sit on the sidelines. More to point out what’s right and fewer to show what’s wrong. More to light a candle and fewer to curse the darkness.”
Are you willing to join today’s “salvation revolution”? Today IS the “acceptable” day to proclaim the liberty found in true salvation! Let’s all follow the fearless example of our nation’s forefathers and continue our “fight” to free these souls for His Kingdom and Glory!
